Friends chicken and fish, country ham, biscuits, and veggies. It was all good and the server readily got us refills on all we wanted. Now, it's not the healthiest dinner but it sure was yummy. ”

“ Never, have I ever, had a bad meal or service from Hillbilly Hideaway. Here's to another solid! When I want good country cooking, I plan a week in advance to go to Hillbilly Hideaway. Family style dining, all you can eat Friday special of fried chicken and fish, pure heaven! Drink of sweet tea or lemonade is included with the meal. The food comes out hot and plentiful. The pinto beans creamy, firm, and thick! Chicken and fish hot and crispy. Hands down this is some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Coleslaw is cold and firm, creamy and sweet. Although the mashed potatoes falls flat in my opinion it is made up by the many other sides that accompanies the meal. The country ham isn't overly salty and pairs well with the flap Jack biscuits. The atmosphere is very rustic. You won't get frills and thrills here but what you will get is good southern hospitality. The "can I get you anything else sweetheart?" makes it hard to say no but eventually you have to drag yourself out of that booth or table and to your car. I highly recommend Hillbilly Hideaway! ”

“ By request of my visiting father in law we headed over to Hillbilly Hideaway for dinner on a Friday. I've never gone on a Friday so it was the first time I have gotten to try the fried fish. It was awesome! If you've never been here it's a real down home country cooking place. The vibe is super casual and it's meant to be like sitting in your grandma/me-maw's kitchen while she cooks all the best stuff for you. They nailed it with the ambiance for sure. The dishes are placed upside down on the table and none of them match which is a great touch to keep with the theme. You only have to be seated for a moment before your drink order arrives followed by a cart full of everything me-maw has been cooking up all day. Today we had , fried chicken, fried fish, country ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, coleslaw, cinnamon apples, pinto beans, hoecakes and cornbread. Everything is served family style of course and if you want more of anything just ask because me-maw has plenty! Come here hungry- I ate a tiny breakfast and that is all the day I went. You'll leave full and happy. The service is always super friendly and fast. They really make you feel at home. You can tell some of the food is from a can but I think me maws around the world use some canned veggies and add their special touches to them too. I gave them 4 because the place is a bit pricy, I wish the seats were a tad more comfy and some of the items aren't from scratch. Still a high score and definitely worth repeat visits for me. ”

“ It makes me really happy to know that this place is still just as amazing as I remembered it being as a kid. It had been a solid 20 years since my last visit, but recently my sister and I had the idea to take our Dad and our spouses out there to see what it was all about as we had many fond memories. I was apprehensive at first. It's easy to love a place when you're a teenager if they're just bringing you tons of comfort food. I wondered if a mix of teenage insatiable hunger and nostalgia were masking what was actually more like Golden Corral style food, which I now loathe. Thankfully, this couldn't have been farther from the case. The food here is the real deal. Some of it is just fine, most of the rest is great, and a few items are OUTSTANDING. The only things that could use improvement were things you probably don't care much about. The pintos, green beans, and corn could all use some flavoring, definitely salt. I am sure their intention is for you to add it at the table, and they keep the salt content low to help out some of their older patrons that are minding their intake. I did that, and they were fine. But my focus was definitely turned toward the items were more appealing, like the awesome meatloaf, the crispy and delicious fried chicken, and country ham biscuits (hoecakes they call them). Y'all. If you know me, you know I am a biscuit connoisseur. You also know how much I love the biscuits at The Biscuit Factory in High Point. These hoecakes... are better. That's right. They are at least as good, if not better, than my favorites. I could absolutely go to this place and just pile back hoecakes, filling myself on their pillowy buttery goodness. I would love a country style breakfast with one of these covered in sausage gravy. It may be a decent drive outside of town, but you could definitely call this place a Triad institution, and for anyone that hasn't lived here most of their lives, a hidden gem. Make your drive out to Walnut Cove. Bring your loved ones. Load up on southern comfort at it's finest from a family restaurant passed down across generations! ”

“ I recently went to Hillbilly Hideaway for the first time with my wife and inlaws. It has been a place of legend for my in-laws. It was framed as this great all you can eat place, a solid 35-40 min outside Greensboro with this amazing southern food. I had my doubts when I listened to these tall tales, as I'd been very disappointed with other recommendations from my in-laws with similar legendary status, one being a specific unnamed cafeteria place. Was this going to be actually good or it was just nostalgic to them? Well I was extremely pleased to experience that this place actually is legendary. The food arrives all at once, probably within about 10 minutes of us sitting down. The corn, beans, and green beans are good but generally fairly plain. The mashed potatoes ate clearly made fresh and the gravy is solid. The coleslaw is a vinegar based slaw with an awesome tanginess. The fried chicken is great American southern fried chicken, nice and crispy with good meat. The country ham is nice and salty. The cornbread was also very good. There were two unreal stand out items: the meatloaf and the biscuits. These were by far the best things they served us. The meatloaf always super soft with great spices (not spicy at all, but super flavorful). And the biscuits were crisp on the edges and soft as clouds on the inside, but buttery and perfection. The owner and server both took great care of us, refilling our drinks and the food as needed. The owner was super nice and genuine, her parents owned it before her and she's been running it since, still with several cooks who have been there since her parents owned the place. This place is a certified gem, it's a feast for a good price and great southern cooking. Go make the drive to this place sometime. ”

“ I joined my family and drove 35 minutes to the middle of NOWHERE to find this little gem. For my family (in-laws), this was a very nostalgic trip. They frequented here as children. And it's not changed since! The original owner's daughter now runs this restaurant and she told us they have the same cooks when they opened decades ago. Very friendly and attentive staff. Now onto the food. This is a quintessential southern family meal. It's great because there is no need to order. You sit, are offered drinks, and then they start bringing out the food! You get to fill your plate with choices of: meatloaf, country baked ham, fried chicken, beans, mashed potatoes, corn, slaw, baked apples, and top it off with hoecakes and cornbread. It was like Thanksgiving growing up in the south! Everything was well-prepared. Some of the sides, like corn and beans, weren't anything to rave about, but it's exactly what you would expect. Their meatloaf and chicken were amazing. And the hoecakes. Man. I'd come out for three baskets of those. This is a great family restaurant to visit and take your time to eat. It can be a bit of a trek, but it's absolutely worth it! ”
